So It Begins...

In the latest Woman's Day Celebrations magazine there is a DIY article on creating specimen boxes for Halloween.

I had a severed finger laying around to spare.

The quote reads "She hath made an erroneous point"

I thought the kitchen is an appropriate space to hang the specimens.

Love the striped green and black background!

All that was needed for this project (almost all items were purchased at Michael's):
Shadow boxes, spray paint to color the boxes, foam core, specimens, T-pins, computer to print out tags.

Although the shadow boxes were inexpensive they had to be sanded and spray painted several times. The ones I purchased have plastic windows which I don't recommend.

Would it be strange to have these up all year round?

Polaroid Tuesday :: Week 47

Thinking about this ice cream cone I had a couple of weekends ago after yesterday's warm summer weather.

Surgeon K

Over the weekend K got the feel of what it would be like as a surgeon...

Hacking and sawing...

Inserting screws and twisting...

Gluing parts into place...

Piles of feet stacked...

The result will be revealed in the near future! Don't worry no humans were harmed in the operating room!

The Halloween Gathering Begins...

Anybody that knows me, knows Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday! Don't get me wrong I don't want summer to end but I get very excited when the Halloween items start rolling out in stores! I start gathering spooky items like a squirrel gathers nuts for the winter! My eyes are always peeled for those Halloween magazines and I purchase any "Grow a (insert any body part) in water" toys! I have a few ideas up my Halloween sleeve this year so stay tuned!

Fancy French Pillow?

I've always taking a liking to these French burlap sack pillows, but never could see myself spending the money for one. After sewing the canopy curtains I had 2 long pieces of left over fabric that seemed to be the perfect size for a pillow to decorate our swinging bench.

We've had this bench for years and it was salvaged from a deserted neighbors house.
I looked through my rubber stamp collection and came up with these letters and a number.

The No reminds me of old potion bottles and 5 is my favorite number and happened to big the largest number stamp I have.

I'm the kind of person who will always run out and purchase everything I need for a project, so when I actually work with materials I have...well it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside!

Not to mention it makes our backs feel warm and fuzzy when sitting on the swinging bench now!

Curtains to Block the Sunshine

I've been meaning to sew curtains for our backyard canopy for awhile now. Every time we ate dinner out on the patio the setting sun would blare straight into our eyes.
Here's Mochi giving a mediocre demonstration.

I purchased curtains from Ikea that were on sale for $7 a pair!

I had to do a bit of hemming and I also added velcro to the tabs in order to hang them from the canopy.

Now we can sit and enjoy without the sun in our eyes. Again Mochi giving us another poor demonstration.

I love how the curtains "frame" our tropical garden!

From the Weekend...

New kitchen centerpiece was created using animals from the wedding and new succulents.

Sweet pup playing with one of her favorite toys.

At one point, I thought this bird was going to snatch my sweet pup away!

Some sewing was accomplished.

Sweet 100 tomatoes were picked.

Sugar was molded (more on this later).

Estate Finds....

Last week I received an email from a co-worker about an estate sale. When the title of the email says "3 antique dealers in 1 estate sale" I knew it was going to be good. These are only a few items I was really excited about!

In this photo from left to right: A glass jar possibly becoming a terrarium, a globe, vintage etched glass ice bucket and a sugar container! I really love estate sales!
